We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Photonics Product Manager to enhance our commercial team for our growing Photonics division. The successful candidate will support the commercial team in a technical capacity, help define the strategic direction for the division and work closely with the engineering and manufacturing teams on the design and delivery of new spectroscopy products. The Product Manager will be responsible for the Photonics product portfolio, including existing product ranges and exciting new growth opportunities for new product innovations. The successful applicant will be instrumental in the company’s next growth phase which will require the Product Manager to be able to really own their product ranges and key customer relationships.

Responsibilities

• Oversee new product initiatives through design, launch, implementation and ongoing product management

• Develop and maintain an inventory of proposed programs and ensure programs have been evaluated and meet criteria for selection

• Support commercial team in technical sales role including advising on configuration of bespoke customer solutions, field demonstration and customer installations

• Deliver technical training to international distributors and sales staff

• Define segment and product strategies to support business segment, sales, and profitability objectives; leverage strategies to identify and evaluate opportunities

• Monitor industry, customer segment, and competitive trends to help support strategies that exceed the current marketplace

• Develop sound business proposals that include: costs of the solution, target markets, and expected return on investment. Effectively sell business proposals to various levels of management throughout the organization

• Collaborate with internal business areas to ensure operational support

• Provide education and support to internal departments and employer groups related to new products/programs on available client programs as needed

• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Criteria

• Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering or Physics or another related discipline (min 2:1)

  • Three to five years’ experience in strategy development, product development, product management and customer support

• Three to five years Photonics sector experience including spectroscopy instrumentation

• Proven experience interpreting industry trends, emerging technologies, and customer needs to identify and build new product offerings

• Proven problem-solving skills • Industrial R&D experience

• Good English language skills, written and oral • Able to travel internationally

• Possession of a full clean driving licence (or evidence that you are working towards obtaining a licence)

Desired Criteria

• Experience and knowledge of spectroscopy systems included fluorescence spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, and/or lasers

• Experience of working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electronics, firmware, software) including specification of product requirements for those teams

• Knowledge and awareness of software code such as C, C++, Python, Jira

• Knowledge of common software packages used by scientific customers such as Labview

• Experience of Agile Product Design methodology
